COMICS OR COMIX?
The internet says both are acceptable. No matter how you choose to spell it comics hold a special place in my creative practice as well as my heart.
I first started making comics while studying Graphic Design. I felt constricted by the rigid world of letters and fonts and needed a way out, simply put a way to draw more (little did I know then that I would switch to illustration and feel better). My first creation was a zine about a school trip to Belgium, I sketched out all five days using 5-6 panels. Everybody became a character in my story, I drew how and what I wanted to remember.
Since then my visual language has grown and changed and comics became an essential part of my practice. It’s a tool of introspection that helps me to process emotions and life changes. Comics also allow me to connect with my audience in a clear, yet playful way.
I also like to push the definition of the word comic and step away from its “traditional” look.
